Species of the week: Feeorin

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Odryn

Notable members: Rav, Burlugg

Fandom: Star Wars

Appearances: Legacy, The Living Force

Feeorin are instantly recognisable by the ‘head-tails’ that hang down from their heads in a mass even thicker than those of a Nautolan, the Feeorin are also marked by short tendrils coming down from around their mouths. Scattered across the Outer Rim, they have often been seen in pirate gangs due to their imposing stature.

There’s a cool Feeorin character in The Living Force, which reminded me of Rav from Legacy (pictured).

Species of the week: Yarkora

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld:

Notable members: Saelt Marae

Fandom: Star Wars

Appearances: Return of the Jedi, The Living Force

Yarkora are mammalian humanoids with large heads and snouts in comparison to their bodies. Though less commonly seen than other species they have been found across the galaxy in roles as varied as artisans, smugglers, criminal informants and Jedi. With two stomachs and multiples of other organs they have been observed to be continually eating.

The Living Force by John Jackson Miller has a really hilarious altercation between Ki-Adi Mundi and a pair of Yarkora!

Guardian’s Log: The Nexus (Destiny gameplay recap)

With the leadership of the House of Winter in disarray, the eyes of the Tower turned back to the threat of the Vex. An ancient machine had been awakened and with it, the whole planet would be transformed into another link on their galactic network.

Log

The access to this ‘Nexus’ was through an old Ishtar dig site. I circumvented the Vex patrolling the old city as I made my way through

The door to the dig was sealed and was in Fallen territory. While I had faced harder foes, three High Servitors were no easy targets and the leaderless house are still a threat when confronted

Evidence of the Golden Age dig and their discoveries of ancient Vex activity were present as we travelled down into the planet

The Golden Age facility gave way to rough hewn caverns exposing the crystalline deposits… fascinating under less dire circumstances

I had to watch my step… the Vex have dug deep into Venus

A huge device pulsing with energy that was ripping into the planet, this was the Nexus, a machine to rebuild a world.

The machine was swarming with Vex, but as we cleared them out the true protector – a massive Hydra who bombarded the area with firepower from behind an impenetrable shield. This wasn’t just a sentry, this machine was the Nexus – the coordinating mind for the Vex plans on Venus. With it gone, their plans are halted for now – but without access to the Black Garden we cannot halt their plans forever.

Grimoire

Sekrion, Nexus Mind

Dedicated to the sole purpose of transforming the entire planet Venus into a machine linked into the Vex network, Sekrion coordinates an army of Vex units to excavate and defend the Nexus site. When the site came under attack his body’s separate components dropped down and assembled into his body to defend the Nexus.

The Nexus

A vast machine converting the raw materials of Venus into the machinery of the Vex

Opinion

I was glad to get back to the Vex after some Fallen-based missions. This Strike was a fun one to play with a boss that was challenging but not impossible to solo. I don’t normally care about loot but the rewards from this one were pretty cool!

Species of the week: Eiroch

Designation: Non-Sentient

Homeworld: Various across Heleus cluster

Fandom: Mass Effect

Appearances: Andromeda

Eiroch are large creatures found across the Heleus cluster on worlds including Voeld. They are bipedal but use all four limbs for charging before using their forelimbs to maul their prey. As well as their bulk they have large bony plates on their heads and backs as protection. Their large size has made them a target for the Kett, who have genetically modified them to be attack beasts called ‘Fiends’.

Ran into one of these beasties while exploring Voeld, it was inconveniently charging me while I tried to scan it!

Species of the week: Houk

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Lijuter

Notable members: Borbig Drob

Fandom: Star Wars

Appearances: Young Jedi Adventures, The Living Force

Houk are large humanoids seen throughout the Outer Rim. Due to their large size they often find work as gladiators or enforcers though many also obtain honest work.

There’s a really fun Houk character in The Living Force, I’m really enjoying listening to it – looks out for my review on Star Wars News Net soon

So… I watched Dune: Part Two

I’ve had time to recover from the experience of watching this Sandworm of a movie. The whole movie is an assault on the senses and the emotions in the best way and had me thinking ‘oh, that’s what movies can be like!’

What’s it about?

Paul Atreides finds his way among the Fremen of Arrakis, supported by his friend-come-lover Chani as he seeks fights the Harkkonen to achieve the dual goal of liberating the Fremen and avenging the destruction of House Atreides. Also supporting him is his mother, Lady Jessica, who stokes the belief that Paul is the fulfillment of a prophecy instigated by her Bene Gesserit order centuries prior.

Paul struggles to accept the prophecy, which he knows is a lie, but may be the only way to achieve peace. Meanwhile forces across the Empire seek to balance his rising power with a new champion – Feyd-Rautha Harkkonen, in the hope that he will defeat Paul to become a leader they can manipulate.

Worth watching?

Yes!!! There is no movie more worthy of the term epic. Go and see it on the biggest screen possible and let the visual spectacle bombard your eyes.

The Sandworm riding scene was pure majesty – as the unrelenting assault of the sand combined with the thundering sound of Shai-Hulud and the euphoria of seeing Paul become Fremen was the most thrilling experience on-screen. But it wasn’t just the big set-pieces but the subtle moments on the Emperor’s garden and the colourless arena on Giedi Prime that all added up to an unforgettable experience.

Go watch it!

Species of the week: Quermian

Designation: Sentient

Homeworld: Quermia

Notable members: Yarael Poof

Fandom: Star Wars

Appearances: The Phantom Menace

Quermians tower over most humanoids due to their elongated necks above their already tall bodies. They are an intelligent species with two brains, one in their heads and another in their chests.

In ancient times they were genetically engineered from the shorter Xexto species and, like them they have four arms, though they generally choose to keep their lower pair hidden.

I’m listening to the audiobook of The Living Force and Yarael is already my favourite character!!
